Despite making regular rental payments, tenants do not see this reflected on their credit report in the same way that homeowners do with their mortgage payments.
To overcome this inequality, Experian has partnered with Big Issue Invest, the social investment arm of The Big Issue Group to create ‘The Rental Exchange’. Sandersons fully support their concept that everyone should be treated equally and be given the same finance opportunities, regardless of whether you are a tenant or a homeowner.
Collecting and observing rental payment data with the same approach as mortgage payment data can unlock a wider range of benefits for tenants, housing providers and credit providers.

The benefit to landlords and housing providers is that helps identify tenants who are committed to paying their rent payments on time. Identifying these customers creates opportunities to enter into more trustworthy long-term relationships. It also encourages on-time payments and with payment history highlighted on a tenant’s credit report, there is more of an incentive to pay rent on time. It helps other organisations by helping to prevent crime, fraud and money laundering.
We have worked exclusively with our software providers to develop an integration allowing rental payment data to feed into the Rental Exchange.
We are constantly finding ways to improve the experience for our tenants and landlords. Our Partnership with the Rental Exchange supports this approach and we are really excited to be able to offer our tenants some recognition for their payment history to get the credit they deserve.
