A second area of public woodland is located northeast of the village at Orlestone Forest. Orlestone is the original location of the village - now just a hamlet. The village has an array of local amenities including a shop with a post office, The Dukes Head pub, The Cosy Kettle tearoom and an Indian restaurant. There is a railway station with links to Ashford International and Hastings. Ashford International has high speed links to London St Pancras in just 37 minutes.
